Alessandro Fogo
Overview
Alessandro Fogo (b. 1992; Thiene, Italy) is a painter who lives and works in South Benedetto del Tronto in Italy. His painted canvases present themselves as framed rituals, oftentimes featuring pensieve figures, sleeping animals, and hidden plants. On a first glance, his works appear to capture intimate ordinary moments but upon closer look his uncanny constructed world reveals itself as disobedient and uncanny. His paintings tell the genesis and history of lasting objects and ideas, establishing them as historical fragments that demand recognition. Fogo sources imagery like an archaeologist digging for artifacts, often drawing on ancient historical and alchemical motifs, which are then layered and interspersed with familiar everyday objects.
